The New York Court of Appeals will be launching a free, public online database of case documents that will make it easier for lawyers to file court papers, starting February 1st.
Andrew Klein, the court’s chief clerk and legal counsel, said the Public Access and Search System database, or Court-PASS, will serve as a permanent archive of all cases filed after Jan. 1. Court-PASS provides an improved method for the filing of records and briefs in digital format on appeals to the Court of Appeals and, for the first time, offers universal online access to these documents through a publicly-searchable database on the Court’s website. The documents will include motion papers, briefs and criminal & civil case records. Videos and transcripts of oral arguments, as well as court decisions, will also be available.
