C-SPAN Video Library 1987 to Present

May 29, 2012

All C-SPAN programming for historical, educational, research, and archival uses is now available on the C-SPAN Video Library for free. Every C-SPAN program that has aired since 1987 is located in the C-SPAN Archives and is immediately accessible through the database and electronic archival systems.

The congressional sessions and committee hearings are indexed by person with full-text. The video collection can be searched through the online Video Library.

The Archives records all three C-SPAN networks seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.

Programs are heavily indexed making it an unmatched chronological resource. The programs are indexed by:

  • Subject,
  • Speaker Names,
  • Titles,
  • Affiliations,
  • Sponsors,
  • Committees,
  • Categories,
  • Formats,
  • Policy Groups,
  • Keywords, and
  • Location.

You can follow C-SPAN’s video blog for updates, browse for the most recent/popular videos as well as past videos, track the schedule of events for all three channels for specific showtimes. You can also watch the Live-Video of C-SPAN online.

States in the Senate

May 3, 2012

The Library of Congress makes note of a new US Senate website which focuses primarily on the history and contributions of the states in the Senate.

States in the Senate

Click on a state to find out more information. I clicked on California.

The first page is an introduction featuring a brief bio of the state Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.

Click on the Senators tab to see a history of all the state Senators dating back to 1850 when John Fremont joined the 31st Congress. You can also click on the name of any Senator and be redirected to Bioguide.Congress.gov for more detailed information about the individual.

Next you can click the Timeline page, which provides an incredible amount of detailed information on Elections, Committees, and more.

This is a great resource for teachers and students in that it provides a unique look into our Nation’s history and allows for us to discover new information about the rest of the 49 states.

If you enjoy browsing through this website, then also make sure to visit the Law Library’s counterpart, Guide to Law Online: U.S. States and Territories.
